TA in India Essays - Ceramic Materials, Materials, Refractory

Tabular Alumina : Domestic market. Compared to the developed western market, Tabular Alumina use in India started late because of no local capacity and lack of focus of global players like ALMATIS and RT ALCAN. In 2000, its consumption was hardly more than few tonnes. The market was predominantly using other locally produced low priced fused aggregates and had very little or no inclination towards Tabular Alumina. However, with the growing trends in the use of quality products in refractory, one of the major potential users of Tabular Alumina, ALMATIS put up a grinding unit in India in the year 2001 to test market the product and assess its opportunity. This brought awareness to the market on its advantages over other aggregates and it slowly started entering into the Indian refractory formulation. The market started realizing that a refractory mix with Tabular Alumina gives a much better thermal shock resistance and high temperature mechanical properties when compared to fused aggregates because it has an even distri bution of pores and Beta-Alumina (soda) over the latter.
